Mary Cordelia Guttirez
At this time, Mary Cordelia "Cordy" Guttirez does not have a traceable family tree. She has been married more than once and has been known to frequently change her name and age. Family members say that her birth name was "Mary Cordelia Guttirez". Her mother's name was Teresa or Theresa and she was known to have a sister named Rufina, as well as many brothers. Her last name was "Guttirez" (Taos Native American), which is not the same as the Spanish last name "Gutierrez", which it is commonly confused with. She is said to have dozens of brothers, uncles, aunts, and cousins that live in France and Spain, but no other information is currently available about any of her other relatives (other than most of her family lives in Europe and New Mexico. Many of the brothers she grew up with at Taos Pueblo are still located in New Mexico). Her place of birth is unknown, but all of her children say it was at Taos Pueblo on August 1st, 1918-1923(?). She died on December 26th, 1995 in Spring Valley, California. Mary was raised in Taos, New Mexico on the Taos Pueblo Indian Reservation, and was also known to live in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Arizona and California. According to family members, her heritage is European (French and Spanish) and Native American, from tribes located in the Southwest United States. This could be why her lineage is so difficult to trace. No official records can be found about her before she was married as an adult (although tribal, census, and other records may exist in the state of New Mexico). Mary legally changed her name to "Cordelia Mary Turbin" and started going by "Cordy" after marrying Walter Raymond Turbin. Her legal name before that marriage was "Mary Martinez", as she married a man with the last name of Martinez. She gave birth to 13 children. No other information is currently available about her family's history at this time.
